Jan Šibík spent the whole year taking pictures of diseased from AIDS in Ukrainian Odessa, and saw poor conditions in which these people live and die. "I saw at first hand that they do not have basic medications which would prolong their lives, or enable them to die with dignity. Spreading of AIDS has overstepped the limit here in Odessa – there are one hundred thousand HIV positive people! It has no parallel with the rest of Europe."
Motto of the exhibition:
"We have been living in conditions unworthy of people. We are dying forgotten by the world around us. Everybody has turned their back on us, however all we need is just a little help. Nothing can save us, but epidemic of this terrible disease must be stopped. Lighthouse in Odessa is going out slowly and all of us are so close to heaven."
