A HAPPY MAN
The true story of man, who for the sake of living truthfully and authentically risks losing what is most precious. The film A Happy Man opens with Czech graphic designer and writer Marvin Horvat reminiscing about his recent past in the Swedish city of Gothenburg, when he was an ordinary Czech woman in a relationship with Slovak husband, psychiatrist Ivan and their two children. The family’s life was supposed to be almost predictable. But through the writing of queer novels Marvin gradually uncovered and got to know himself. More and more intensely he felt the need to be who he was – a man. The documentary also sensitively reveals his husband Ivan’s experience in this brand new situation. The viewer can observe not only the beginning and the development of Marvin’s transition, but also the change of his appearance, attitudes, relationships, and partnership. A Happy Man penetrates deeply and reveals the true nature and power of love on many levels. What do we value in each other and what is the essence of our relationships? And what really constitutes a good partnership and family?
